Core Support

All of the laboratories of the C-CEBH are individually funded. The C-CEBH also receives core support both from the University of Maryland and from the NIDCD to encourage and facilitate cross laboratory collaborations of program investigators. This means that exciting new research ideas that occur at the interface of the individual C-CEBH laboratories can be supported and nurtured. Support is currently concentrated in areas of biological imaging and computation/electronics. The Imaging Core provides support of a full time scientist/microscopist who provides research guidance and expertise for a wide range of techniques, including electron and confocal microscopy. The Imaging Core is available to C-CEBH faculty and their students for general guidance in imaging methods, training in the use of instrumentation and procedures, and the development of new imaging techniques. The Computation/Electronics Core provides support of a full-time computer and electronics scientist/engineer to assist C-CEBH investigators in developing new software and hardware to support their research. Techniques developed in one laboratory are made available for use across C-CEBH laboratories. The Computation/Electronics Core also provides for training of investigators in software and hardware and in the introduction of advanced computing and electronic techniques into C-CEBH laboratories.
